Western Nebraska Punches Their Ticket to the District B Championship
Nov. 9, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The final day of the Region IX Volleyball Championship Tournament opened with Eastern Wyoming facing off against Western Nebraska who in three sets, punched their ticket to the District B Championship against Northeastern Junior College.
Set one found Eastern Wyoming down by three points, before going on a run to go up by three points 15-12. Following a Cougar timeout, WNCC forced a sideout and then battled to a one point lead 18-17. After being tied up at 18's, WNCC slowly pulled away for th 25-22 victory. Set two again had several ties and lead changes as both teams battled defensively with great digs and strong front line play. EWC held the advantage at 21-19 before WNCC roared back to lead 23-21. EWC again battled to within one point 24-23, before WNCC sided out to take set two, 25-23. In the third set, WNCC ran out to a six point lead which proved to be too much for Eastern Wyoming to overcome. WNCC won the set and match with a 25-16 win.
Eastern Wyoming finishes fourth in the tournament and Western Nebraska faces off with Northeastern Junior College at 4 pm today for the District B Championship national qualifying berth.
Northeastern Junior College is Colorado’s premier two-year residential college, part of the Colorado Community College System and NCA accredited. Northeastern offers a wide variety of degree and certificate programs, along with career and technical training and community classes. Northeastern is a Division I member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, part of the Region IX with 10 varsity athletic teams.
