Plainsmen Topple Tetons

Mar. 11, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — Inclement weather in the Sterling area once again made the Plainsmen change the location to the game back to Runyon Field in Pueblo, Colo. Regardless of the location, the Plainsmen were excited to get back on the field and play baseball. These games featured Northeastern against the Williston State Tetons in two games. 

In the first game, Northeastern knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Davyn Adamscheck doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. The Plainsmen pulled away for good with one run in the second inning when Dylan Norsen drew a walk. Northeastern tallied four runs in the fourth inning with big bats led by Matthew Armendariz.  In the sixth, Sean Kelsen had a home run to help solidify their 9-3 win.

Praxie Vigil took the win for the Plainsmen as he allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Jonah Coleman helped Vigil get the win when threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Northeastern tallied 11 hits in the game. Adamscheck, Carter Allen, and Rosalio Mayo Ibarra each managed multiple hits for the Plainsmen with Allen and Adamscheck each collecting three hits. 

Game two was much better with four pitchers helping to throw a shutout for the Plainsmen. Northeastern got on the board in the second inning when Cameron Phillips singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. In the fourth, three runs scored to make it a 6-0 game as Andrew Paige II, Jaxon Rosencranz, and Jordan Garcia all drove in runs in the frame. 

Jayden Smith led the Northeastern to victory on the pitcher's mound. He lasted four innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out eight. John Inglis, Sean Whalen, and Gunnar Foegen all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the 8-0 victory. 

Garcia led the Plainsmen with two hits in four at bats. Northeastern stole nine bases during the game with Carter Allen leading the way with three. 

The Plainsmen will head into their spring trip to Ariz. as they play against Central Arizona on Thursday, Mar. 14.
