Northeastern Falls to McCook In Regular Season Finale

May. 6, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In their final series of the regular season, the Northeastern Plainsmen hosted the McCook Community College (MCC) Indians. If the Plainsmen swept MCC, they would host the Region IX tournament. If Northeastern lost, they would still make the playoffs as a top-four seed. Their hosting dreams were squashed as McCook won all three games of the series. 

In game one, the Plainsmen watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in the 6-1 loss. Northeastern broke the ice in the bottom of one with a Jaxon Rosencranz sacrifice fly. That was Northeastern's lone point and McCook took the reigns in the top of two with two runs. They added more throughout the game and Northeastern lost 6-1. Praxie Vigil took the loss for the Plainsmen as he surrendered six runs on eight hits over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. 

The second game Northeastern played much better but still lost 8-5. Like game one, Northeastern took the early 1-0 lead when Rosencranz drove in Davyn Adamscheck. The Plainsmen added another in the bottom of two when Sean Kelsen scored on an error by the Indians. In the bottom of three, Northeastern doubled their score before McCook could get on the board in the top of four. The sixth inning was where things went south for the Plainsmen as McCook was able to score five runs taking the 7-5 lead over Northeastern. Northeastern went on to fall to the Indians 8-5 in that game. 

In their third and final game, Northeastern struggled to put any runs on the board in the 13-0 loss. The only hits in the game came from Colton Horn and Carter Allen as they each got one. 

With the regular season ending, the Plainsmen will begin postseason play when they travel to Trinidad, Colo. to play in the Region IX tournament. Their opponent has yet to be decided.
