Northeastern Baseball Earns First Region IX Title Since 2013, Taking Down Otero College 10-1 in the Region IX Tournament Championship

Northeastern Baseball looked unstoppable as they took down Otero College 10-1 to win the Region IX title on Sunday. It was the Plainsmen's first Region IX Title since 2013. Aniel Del Orbe was named the DDC Player of the Game. Del Orbe went 3-3 at the plate, stealing one base, scoring two runs and driving in three runs on the day.

The bottom of the lineup helped lead the way for the Plainsmen. Del Orbe, Harrison Good and Brendan Clelland combined for 7 of the team's 9 hits in the victory. They scored four runs and drove in four runs. Northeastern got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after Michael Clark singled, scoring two runs. 5 more Plainsmen runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-1. Del Orbe singled, scoring one run, Yusei Uzawa hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, an error scored one run and Max Valerio homered to left field, scoring two runs. Del Orbe hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Tony Slizowski started on the hill for the Plainsmen and ended up earning the win. Slizowski went 4.2 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits, walking two batters and struck out three batters. Makoy Lucero threw .1 innings, giving up two hits and walked one batter. Cameron Ochoa threw four innings, giving up no hits, walked one batter and struck out four batters. Del Orbe and Clelland each collected three hits to lead the way for Northeastern. Uzawa stole two bases. 

The Plainsmen will be playing Utah State University Eastern on Thursday in Salt Lake City, UT for their next performance.
