Plainsmen extend winning streak to five games

It was a successful weekend for the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen. The Plainsmen played their first home games of the season this past Friday and Saturday and won both games to improve to 5-1 on the season. The two home victories extended NJC's winning streak to five games.

In their home opener the Plainsmen defeated Fort Carson 93-66. At the half the Plainsmen led Fort Carson 48-31. The Plainsmen kept their foot on the gas in the second half, outscoring their opponent 45-35.

The Plainsmen had five players reach double figures in the winning effort. Kei'Shon Parker led the way, with 18 points.

Garrett Baggett scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Baggett also dished out three assists and came up with three steals.

Jalonni McCovery poured in 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Ron Hall went 6-6 from the field and scored 15 points. Hall also grabbed nine rebounds. Axel Mpoyo scored 11 points and came down with nine rebounds. Tyre Robinson was a force around the rim recording six blocks.

NJC wrapped up the weekend with a 81-74 victory against Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday in front of the home crowd.

Robinson led the way for the Plainsmen with 13 points and eight rebounds. Dan Villejo and Marsalis Johnson and Hall both scored 12 points off the bench.

Marsalis Johnson scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds. Baggett chipped in with nine points. Jazz Parker and Kei'Shon Parker both scored eight points.

The Plainsmen will hit the road tonight to take on Air Force Prep Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. NJC will be back home Monday, Nov. 21, against Sheridan College. NJC lost to Sheridan College to start the season 88-62.
