Lancers Dismounted by Northeastern

Lancers Dismounted by Northeastern

The Region IX is arguably one of the toughest regions in the NJCAA, maybe even the United States.  The Region consists of 17 member colleges, which are broken into two division, north and south.  The Plainsmen are in the South Division and played their first conference game against Eastern Wyoming.  Every game counts in the region and winning or losing a game in the first semester could determine a team's future in March.

The Plainsmen would begin the game by going on a 21-8 run against the Lancers.  Right after that little run, EWC would make a small comeback by tacking on eight points and bringing the score to within five points.  With the buzzer sounding, the Plainsmen would be leading the Lancers 37-21.  Marcus Burwell would lead first half scoring by having 11 points, and Jazz Parker would be next with eight.  Knowing that there is still another half to play, Northeastern needed to keep on the pressure to be able to come away with their first conference W.

Right away in the second, the Lancers seemed to have an extra pep in their step because they came out, shot better, and crashed the offensive boards.  At first, it caught the Plainsmen off guard because EWC would score 13 points to the Plainsmen's four.  This little run came in the first five minutes, and NJC adjusted accordingly.  In the minutes to follow, Northeastern would not let the Lancers come within 10 points of their lead and would eventually win 83-66.

Leading the men in scoring would be Marcus Burwell with 22 points.  Next would be Mohammad Elradi with 12 points and five rebounds.  Next would be Ron Hall and Jazz Parker with 10 apiece.  Having a great showing in this game would be Keishon Parker as he would score eight points, but more notably have 10 rebounds.

The Plainsmen will be back in action in another conference game on Friday December 1 as they host the Cougars from Western Nebraska with tipoff at 7:30 following the women's game.
