Sophomore Night Success

Sophomore Night Success

The Plainsmen basketball team hosted the Peterson Air Force Base Black Knights for their final regular season game.  This game could potentially be the sophomore's last home game, so they wanted to make sure they finished it the right way.  After Coach Trenkle and Coach Soza thanked each of the sophomores for their commitment to the program, they ball way tossed and the game started.

Right away, both teams were proving to each other that they could shoot the ball, so points were being added to the scoreboard quickly.  Within the first three minutes, a total of 29 points were scored between both teams, with the Plainsmen leading 19-13.  No team could get a definitive lead, as one would get ahead, then the other would claw back and get a lead, then repeat.  With the first 10 minutes passing, it was Northeastern who would have the two-point lead, 32-30.  With the time ticking, the Plainsmen would try to break away from the Knights, but could only keep a 59-53 lead.

In the second half, NJC was gearing up for the long run, because unlike other teams, the Knights were well conditioned due to their involvement in the Air Force.  With that in their mind, the Plainsmen knew they would just have to outscore them.  The game would again be a back and forth battle with the Plainsmen consistently leading by at least three points.  At the four minute mark is when NJC broke the ice and would finally pull away.  They would eventually get ahead by nine, which was enough to keep the Knights away.  The Plainsmen would finish the game by winning 106-101.

Marcus Burwell would lead the team with 26 points and nine assists, while Mohammad Elradi would have himself 21 points and six rebounds.
