Plainsmen Defeated After Falling Behind Early

Jan. 14, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainsmen played their rescheduled game against Colorado Northwestern on Saturday when they traveled to Rangely, Colo. This game was originally scheduled for first semester, but inclement weather forced the teams to pick a different date. The trip was a long one for the men, which could have played a role in their loss.

The first half did not start well for the Plainsmen as the Spartans jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes. Northeastern gained a few of those points back, but Colorado Northwestern went on a 14-3 run to make it a 23-7 game. The men had a tough time shooting in that half, which made them trail 41-24 at halftime.

The second half was much better as the men began it with a 13-0 run to bring the game to a 41-37 score. The men were able to dig themselves out with a little over 15 minutes left in the game. A few minutes later, the Plainsmen took the three-point lead before the Spartans took a time out. Northeastern held the lead for a few minutes before Colorado Northwestern took it back around the nine-minute mark. From that point, the Plainsmen had to play catch-up as the Spartans kept them from getting too close. In the last three minutes, Northeastern went on a drought and struggled to regain the points needed to overcome their opponent. Northeastern fell to Colorado Northwestern 76-68, with Mohamed Diallo leading the way with a double-double as he earned 29 points and 10 rebounds. Nykolas Lange also had himself a game as he scored 20 points and went six for six from the free-throw line.

Northeastern looks to get conference play started on the right foot on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as they host Lamar Community College with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
