Plainsmen Suffer Back To Back Conference Game Losses

Plainsmen Suffer Back To Back Conference Game Losses

Sterling, Colo...

Last week Northeastern faced a couple of tough conference teams as the season continues to move forward.  On Tuesday the 25th, NJC played Otero who was undefeated in conference play and also has been playing very solid this season.  The Plainsmen held the lead at halftime, but were unable to keep up with the Rattlers in the 2nd half and ultimately took the loss.  On Friday the 28th, Trinidad State came to town for another conference showdown that did not end in the favor of NJC.  Currently, Northeastern stands with a 7-10 record which is good enough for 3rd place in the conference.  NJC takes on North Platte CC on Tuesday the 1st for another conference game.  Tip off starts at 6pm.

(Game Recap 1/25) Plainsmen vs. Otero College = Loss 80-64

1st Half -  NJC outscores the Rattlers.  NJC leads at halftime 35-33.

2nd Half - Otero's offense was too much for the Plainsmen.  NJC losses 80-64.

Breakdown: NJC couldn't keep up the momentum in the 2nd half as the Rattlers ran away with the game.  Obi Agbim led the way for NJC with 19 points followed up by sophomore Cyler Kane-Johnson who scored 14.  Northeastern out rebounded Otero but ended the game with more turnovers.  NJC shot only 14% from behind the arc, which doesn't work when you shoot 20+ 3 pointers in the game.  Northeasten only shot 31.3% from the field all together.

(Game Recap 1/28) Plainsmen vs. Trinidad State College = Loss 81-77

1st Half -  Trojans shot hot from the field.  NJC was losing at halftime 45-33.

2nd Half - NJC played a much better second half, but couldn't overcome the score deficit.  Trojans win 81-77.

Breakdown: Another tough break for the Plainsmen on their home court.  Trinidad proved to be a tough team and it shows with their record and conference play.  NJC again continues to out rebound their opponents, but struggle to control their turnovers and win that category.  Freshman Obi Agbim again scores 20+ points for NJC.  Quincey Jewett scored in double digits with 16 followed up by sophomore Cyler Kane-Johnson with 10.  Much better shooting against the Trojans with a 43.1% field goal percentage and 36% from behind the arc.
