Bio

Tydan Archibald joined the Plainsman basketball program in the fall of 2023. Archibald came to Sterling after serving as an assistant coach at Prestige Prep in Miami, Florida. Archibald is excited to be joining the Northeastern program and to learn under the tutelage of Coach Trenkle.  

A sharpshooting guard, Tydan is a 2023 graduate of Tarleton State University. He played under two-time Big 12 coach of the year and National Juco Coach of the year Billy Gillespie. Archibald was an Academic All WAC performer who had a career-high 15 as a Texan. Archibald came to Tarleton as a transfer from Southern Arkansas University.   

Archibald is no stranger to junior college basketball. He played two years of junior college basketball in Region 14: Trinity Valley and Lamar State Port Arthur. His freshman year he averaged 10 points shooting 41% from three with a season high of 28 points. His sophomore year Archibald broke Lamar State Port Arthur's school record for three’s twice. Archibald set a record with 8 threes against Tyler Junior College, and 9 three’s against his former team Trinity Valley. He had a career-high 30 points twice against Trinity Valley and Victoria College. Archibald finished the year ranked Top 10 in three-pointers per game and Top 25 in steals per game in the nation.   

Archibald graduated high school from Houston Christian University. The Mustangs won a state championship in Archibald's senior year in 2019. Archibald was the leading scorer of the state tournament and was selected as an all-conference player.  

Archibald hails from a basketball family. He has a brother, Bradoc Archibald who is a high school varsity coach in South Carolina. Archibald's parents both played Division 1 basketball and are currently coaching. His father, Damon Archibald has coached at 7 Division One schools. His paternal grandfather, Lynn Archibald, and Uncle Beau Archibald are all well-respected former coaches at the Division 1 level. Archibald's Uncle Mark Pope is the current head coach at BYU. Archibald is from Houston, Texas and just moved to Sterling with his dog "Boo" from Miami.
