NJC's Matthew Campbell Sets Plainsmen 2-Day Individual Scoring Record

Sterling, Colo...

Last week the Plainsmen and Plainswomen hosted their first tournament of the golf year at Sky Ranch Golf and Grill.  The NJC golf team has been traveling throughout the season thus far and have had some really good results on the road including a tournament win last week in Torrington.  Even though the Plainsmen took a 3rd place finish at their home course, freshman Matt Campbell came up big for his team with a 1st place overall finish, and a two day score total of 137 (70-67).  Campbell's 7 under par score this past week was good enough to be the best two day individual score by a Plainsmen in program history, setting a new NJC men's golf record.  Alex Tanner also broke into a top 5 finish at Sky Ranch with a two day total of 143 (72-71), which was good enough for a tie for fourth place and his best finish of the season.  NJC's third place finish as a team with a two day total of 582 was only one stroke off of tying for second place (Eastern Wyoming College), and eight strokes off of first place (McCook CC).  The Plainsmen were also missing three of their players who were out with illness.  With only two tournaments left for the Fall season, Northeastern will take this week off and then head to Lamar to compete on Thursday, September 30th and Friday, October 1st.

Only one member from the Plainswomen golf team was able to compete this past week.  Annabelle Flores did shoot the best score out of all of the women competitors over the two days with a total score of 203 (93-110).  However, due to not enough women competing in the tournament, both NJC and Otero College both had DNF's.
