Plainsmen win home finale

By Brennen Rupp, JA

The Northeastern Junior College soccer teams played their final home games Tuesday afternoon. The Plainsmen blanked Western Wyoming Community College 1-0, and finished the season 3-3-1 at home. The Plainswomen lost to WWCC 1-0, and finished the regular season with an 0-4 record at home.

Paul Liagre scored on a header at the 27 minute mark to give the Plainsmen a 1-0 lead. Chance Vang recorded the assist on the goal.

Liagre's 10th goal of the season was all NJC needed. They played great defense and kept WWCC from picking up any offensive momentum. NJC goalkeeper Akim Larmond recorded seven saves.

NJC improved to 6-5-3 with the shutout victory. It's the first time this season the Plainsmen won back-to-back games. They'll look to pick up their third straight victory on Friday, Oct. 7, against Dodge City Community College. The Conquistadors are 1-7-2, and won their last game against Northwest Tech 3-1.

In the women's game, Western Wyoming Community College drew first blood against NJC at the 14:26 mark in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. NJC was unable to find the equalizer, as they lost their eighth straight game.

NJC is now 1-11 on the season and they've been shut out in eight straight games. They'll look to snap their losing streak this Friday against Dodge City Community College. The Lady Conquistadors are 5-5 this season, and won their last match against Pratt 11-0.
