Plainsmen Defeat Spartans in Home Opener

Plainsmen Defeat Spartans in Home Opener

The Plainsmen soccer team hosted the Colorado Northwestern Spartans for their season opener.  The men were excited to get on their home pitch and get to work.

In the opening minutes, NJC had numerous opportunities to put one in the back of the net, but miscues and misguided passes made their chances diminish.  As time played on, the Plainsmen were able to work together and scored their first goal at the 20 minute mark by Vitor Venancio to lead 1-0.  Not to be outdone, the Spartans were able to get a sly goal past Clement May to tie it one a piece.  From there, the Spartans were able to keep their heads above water until half, and the score remained 1-1.

The second half was a better-played half, but misguided headers and deflected shots on goal kept the score down to a close game.  The second goal came late in the second as a well-placed pass by Ryan Maulsby teamed up with Joe Godoy to place a header past the keeper.  The final blow would come by the feet of Mustafa Nadeem to give the final score 3-1.

Although there were several chances to blow the game wide open, the Plainsmen still put themselves in great scoring positions.

The Plainsmen will be back in action on 9/1 at home as they host Northeast with the Plainswomen kicking off at 12 noon and the men at 2.
