Late Goal By Hayes Seals Victory

The Plainsmen were not done over the long Labor Day weekend with games by hosting the Garden City Broncbusters.  The men recently had a small winning streak put out by Snow College and were looking at starting a new streak with this game.

The game started out a back and forth battle on the pitch, but it was Joseph Godoy from the pass of Paul Liagre who would break the ice first in the fifth minute of the game to give the Plainsmen the 1-0 lead.  Before long, Garden City would tie the game up again one a piece.

In the 35 minute, it would be a great pass from Brodie Hayes to Chance Vang who would give the Plainsmen their second lead of the game.  But being true competitors, the Broncbusters would tie it up once again before going into halftime with a 2-2 score.

In the second half, Garden City would take their first lead of the game late in the 70 minute to lead 3-2.  Not wanting to be outdone, Paul Liagre would chalk up another assist to Mustafa Nadeem to bring it back to a tie game at 3-3.

Without wanting to skip out on the scoring festivities, Brodie Hayes would net one as Ryan Maulsby would be given the assist in the stat book.  But once again, the Broncbusters had to use their talents to make it a nail biter with only five mnutes to play in the game.

With the bitter feeling of defeat dancing around in their heads from Saturday, the Plainsmen did not want to rush and not get a scoring opportunity and give away this game like last time.  Being in this position before, they were able to be cool, calm, and collective and advance the ball.  With only two minutes remaining in the game, Mariano Escobedo lofted a perfect ball to the taller Brodie Hayes, as he floated through the air and headed the ball in the back of the net to seal the victory at 5-4.

The Plainsmen will be back in action at home as they host the Trinidad State Trojans for Faculty/Staff appreciation night.
