Plainsmen Fall To Cougars

Plainsmen Fall To Cougars

Oct. 11, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – As a nationally ranked team, the Plainsmen soccer team have a lot riding on every game they play. They not only want to maintain their rank in the nation, but also their rank in the Region IX South Division. With that in mind, the Plainsmen soccer team went into their game against the Western Nebraska Cougars with offense on their mind and with defense as their backbone.

The weather was not ideal for the Plainsmen, as the snow was dropping from the sky and wind made it hard to stay warm. Northeastern came prepared, layered their clothes, and took to the pitch. While the Plainsmen were still trying to get their blood moving in the opening minutes of the game, the Cougars took advantage.

Western Nebraska came out in the opening minutes with fire and were on a mission to take down the Plainsmen. Northeastern was unable to match the intensity early, which lead to the Cougars scoring the first and only goal of the match in the eighth minute. The Plainsmen were taken back that they had allowed Western Nebraska to get the best of them. The rest of the game the Plainsmen tried to get that goal back with one of their own, but could never capitalize on the opportunity. The game ended with the 12th ranked Plainsmen falling to the Cougars 1-0.

Although this loss hurt, Northeastern will still host the first round of playoffs on Oct. 20. Before that game happens, they will travel to Central Community College and Northeast Community College to finish out their regular season.
