Clean Sheet In Season Opener

Clean Sheet In Season Opener

Aug. 23, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainsmen soccer team came back to the pitch for their 2019 season opener as they host the Northeast Community College (NCC) Hawks. After an upsetting end to their season last year, the men were returning with a vengeance. With the men wearing their new white with gold stripe kits, the game began.

Both teams were playing fairly hesitant, but Northeastern was quick to keep it in their offensive zone. The Plainsmen took a couple shots on goal, but none could find the back of the net. It was in the 13th minute when Slayter Andolsek scored the first goal of the game, and of his collegiate career. Although the Plainsmen led 1-0, they kept pressuring offensively. That tactic paid off a few minutes later as they netted another ball when Paul Caliari scored making it a 2-0 game. Despite additional chances throughout the half, the Plainsmen kept their 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half was a more controlled tempo for the Plainsmen as they just needed to keep the Hawks from getting scoring opportunities. Northeastern still took their chances at scoring when the time came, but it was less of a priority. Their tactics paid off and came out the winners as 2-0 read on the scoreboard.

The Plainsmen will return to the pitch on Aug. 25 as they host Pratt Community College with kickoff at 2 p.m.
