Plainsmen improve to 4-0 in Region IX Play

Northeastern Men's Soccer (7-4-1, 4-0-0) won their fourth Region IX Conference match in a row against Sheridan College on Friday, Sept. 27 with a 1-0 victory.

Northeastern began the match with controlled possession and a strong offensive press. The Plainsmen received the game-winning goal from freshman Alex Champavert in the 30th minute assisted by sophomore Quentin Hornung and freshman Slayter Andolsek.  Champavert's goal came off a long throw-in from Andolsek that was knocked down at the far post by Hornung and into the path of Champavert who found the back of the net.

Northeastern carried the 1-0 lead into halftime and went into the second half and focused on defense and maintaining the 172 shutout streak.

Northeastern outshot their opponent 20-8, which included three saves from starting goalkeeper sophomore Maarten Ritsema. Next weekend the home matches continue as the Plainsmen host two more Region IX opponents at Sterling Middle School. Western Wyoming comes to town on Friday, Oct. 4 at 3:00 p.m. followed by Laramie County Community College on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:00 p.m. Northeastern and LCCC are currently first and second in Region IX with 15 points each.
