Seven Plainsmen Score in Victory over Gillette

Northeastern Men's Soccer (8-4-1, 5-0-0) won their fifth Region IX Conference match in a row against Gillette College on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, with a 7-0 victory. The scoreline was the second largest in program history (won 9-0 at Central in 2016).

After 18 minutes of controlled possession, sophomore Juan Macias found the back of the net for the second time this season off a corner kick from freshman Ben Ashfield. Just four minutes later freshman Scott Phillip Woods scored his second goal with a hard low shot outside the box on assists from freshmen Alex Champavert and Wissem Obeid. In the 31st minute, Northeastern received another corner kick which was taken by Macias and powered into the net by freshman Mika Roskamm for his first collegiate goal.

Plainsmen sophomore captain Quentin Hornung continued the scoring in the 36th minute when Macias won a tackle and passed to freshman Slayter Andolsek who slotted it back for an easy tap in. Northeastern was not done yet as Andolsek got into the action off a corner kick one minute before halftime to make it 5-0.

Northeastern clamped down on the defense and utilized their team depth. Sophomore Gabriel Temperini scored his second goal of the season after strong attacking build-up play and assists from Hornung and sophomore Carlos Scholz. The final goal came in the 83rd minute from Champavert.

The Plainsmen's shutout streak now stands at 262 minutes. Next weekend the home matches continue as the Plainsmen host two more Region IX matches at Sterling Middle School. Western Wyoming comes to town on Friday, Oct. 4 at 3:00 p.m. and then Laramie County Community College on Saturday, Oct.5 at 3:00 p.m. Northeastern and LCCC are currently first and second in Region IX with 15 points apiece.
