Northeastern Men's Soccer Off To A Hot Start

The Northeastern men's soccer program you could say is off to a hot start, so hot that the 5-1 record that they boast right now is the best start in the programs history! Earlier this week on Wednesday, September 8th, the Plainsmen soccer team battled 20th ranked Casper College Thunderbirds on NJC's home pitch. The Plainsmen came off of a strong Labor Day weekend performance in Scottsbluff where they won both matches during that tournament. The match against Casper was the team's first home game of the season as well as the first regional game of the season. Last year the Plainsmen played Casper on the road in which the Thunderbirds won that match 1-0. With a little bit of vengance on the mind, Northeastern was able to shutout Casper this time and tally a fifth straight victory. Coach Chance Vang on his team's victory: "I am very happy for the lads and proud of the passion and unity they played with. Passion and unity is something we have been stressing to our players all season and this win was a perfect example of that. Tons of credit goes to our backline and goalkeeper who were warriors on the field today for 90 minutes and gave us the end result against Casper that we were looking for." Northeastern recorded 10 shots on goal while the Thunderbirds recorded 7 shots on goal. The Plainsmen return to the road for a pair of Region IX games on Friday and Saturday. NJC plays Trinidad State at 3:30pm on Friday, September 10th and the Otero Rattlers on Saturday, September 11th at 4:30pm.

At minute 43, Vinicius Fornari pressed the opposition coming up with a big take away putting him in a dangerous position to pass the ball to Dylan Viebrantz-Zavatini who composed himself to make a stong shot that beat the goalkeeper to the right for the goal
Breakdown: The Plainsmen went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. In the second half, the game stayed constant with lots of back and forth play. Casper continued to overload the right half of the pitch, creating constant pressure to maximize its chances to equialize the match. With many dangerous opportunities to score and expose the Plainsmen, the backline and goalkeeper held their ground to finish the game with a clean sheet.
