Softball Falls Short To Indians
The Plainswomen softball team would travel to McCook to play against the Lady Indians. Being that this would be a conference game, the ladies knew they needed to play well to keep them in post season contention. So far this year, the teams have split all the series, so if Northeastern could get both of these on the road, they would be help themselves out tremendously. Getting a split would not do them much good, so a sweep was what they would aim for.
The first game, the Indians would take an early 2-0 lead, but in the top of two, the Plainswomen would get a run to cut their deficit in half making it a 2-1 game. McCook would be able to add to their score in the next three innings to make it now a 9-1 game. The Plainswomen would keep trying to get something going, but could never get their baserunners around to score. In the fifth, the ladies would add two runs to make it a 9-3 game. Northeastern would try to cool the Indians run streak, but two runs in the fifth would initiate the run rule and would end the first game with a score of 11-3.
The second game would come shortly after the first, and the Plainswomen wanted to get out of there with at least a split. They have split with them the entire season, so odds were on their side to help them make it possible. The game would being with both teams playing well defensively, and NJC would score first in the top of two to make it a 1-0 game. In the third, the ladies would make it a 2-0 game fore the Indians would score in the bottom of three to make it 2-1. The bottom of four was when McCook would score two runs to take the 3-2 lead, but not to be out done, the Plainswomen would regain it by scoring two of their own. With NJC leading 4-3, McCook would start to get hot again, and the Plainswomen would struggle again to hold them from going on a run. In the bottom of five, MCC would score three runs, then add another three in the bottom of six to make it a 9-4 game. That would be the final score of the game as well as NJC could not get their bats rolling in the final two innings.
The Plainswomen will be at home for two series, one against Colby CC and their final games against Western Nebraksa.
