Softball Win Four on the Weekend

Softball Win Four on the Weekend

Mar. 11, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainswomen softball team are back and coming at teams in full force. The ladies are playing well and getting their bats rolling and beating teams. Their play against the Williston State Tetons and the Northwest Kansas Tech Mavericks was nothing less than spectacular.

The first game against the Tetons was a shutout with Erin Hersey getting the win with Annika Hildebrand helping close. The Plainswomen jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, then doubled it with two more in the third. Northeastern put the icing on the cake with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 11-0 victory. Gracie Cordova led the charge with three hits with six RBI's.

The second game against the Tetons had another big inning for the Plainswomen. The ladies started the game by taking the 2-0 lead, then tacked on seven in the second to make it a 9-1 game. Northeastern followed one big inning up with another by scoring five in the third to extend their lead to 14-1. The Tetons were able to score one more, but Northeastern countered with two more and won 16-2. Delaine Woolsey received the win on the mound with Camille Lucas and Cordova helping her offensively by each leading the team with three RBI's.

Although winning against Williston was satisfying, the Plainswomen wanted to finish the week with another two wins against the Northwest Kansas Tech Mavericks. Delaine Woolsey received another win when the Plainswomen defeated the Mavericks 12-4 in the first game. Northeastern got the bats going early and scored big runs with Cordova and Bailey Deal leading with four RBI's each.

The last game was the Plainswomen's best as they scored the most runs with the most hits. The first inning Northeastern jumped out to an 8-0 lead, and then continued to add at least three more runs in the next three innings. The Plainswomen only allowed the Mavericks to score two in the final inning, but the deed was done as Northeastern won 18-2. Abby Mussman led with five RBI's with Danielle Woolsey having four.

Northeastern's next game will be at home on Tuesday, March 19 as they host the Western Nebraska Cougars.
