Softball Concludes Season

The Northeastern Plainswomen softball team concluded their season with two losses against the Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) Cougars. The Plainswomen were already knocked out of the postseason, so the ladies were playing for pride.

The first game of the doubleheader came down to the end where the Cougars regained the lead late and won 6-5. Northeastern took the early 3-2 lead in the first. The game stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when WNCC plated two and led 4-3. The Plainswomen tied things up in the following inning, then regained the lead in the top of six. With Northeastern up 5-4, they needed to lock down and finish the game. The Cougars had other plans and scored two runs, and finished winning 6-5. Makaila Chadwick took the loss on the mound for the Plainswomen as she only gave up six hits.

The second game was tough for the Plainswomen to get going in their 7-3 loss. Northeastern scored one in the first before giving up four to trail 4-1. Despite that opening inning, Northeastern played solid the rest of the game. Both teams played great defense and didn't allow any crooked numbers throughout the rest of the game. In the end, the Plainswomen fell 7-3 to the Cougars.

The Plainswomen softball's season ended with a 24-28 overall record, setting a school record.
