The Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen were unable to improve their standings in the Region IX South over the weekend, coming up short against the top two teams in the division in their final home games of the season.

On Friday, NJC hosted Eastern Wyoming College (8-5 division, 19-10 overall) and fell 64-59. In Saturday's Hoops Homecoming matchup, Western Nebraska Community College (12-1 division, 23-4 overall) dominated the Plainswomen 86-52 and extending the home team's losing streak to four games.

The Lady Lancers took advantage of a 20-10 first quarter lead Friday night. NJC tried to mount a comeback, outscoring Eastern Wyoming 16-14 in the second and 13-10 in the third, but were only able to stay even with their opponent in the fourth to get the loss.

The Plainswomen had three players reach double digits in the matchup: Nicole Muragarren Clavier, 19; Kiara McElroy, 13; and Morgan Schaaf, 12. Muragarren Clavier also led the rebounding effort, with nine boards.

In Saturday's loss to Western Nebraska, McElroy came off the bench to put up 15 points. Jennae Fieldgrove had nine points; Muragarren Clavier, eight; and Schaaf and Demitria Heard, seven each.

NJC now holds a 7-19 record as they head into their final game of the season, taking on Laramie County Community College (3-9 division, 9-16 overall) tonight on the road. In their previous matchup, the Plainswomen played a close game but lost 70-64.
