Plainswomen Fall In Season Opener

Plainswomen Fall In Season Opener

In the 2017-2018 season opener, the Plainswomen traveled to Norfolk, NE to play the Northeast CC Hawks.  The Plainswomen were eager to get the season rolling after a full preseason of scrimmages.  The preseason scrimmages were great for the ladies, but nothing is better than the opening games of the year.

In the first quarter, it was the Plainswomen who would have the early advantage by leading by one, but by halftime it was the Hawks who would have the one point lead.  The women knew that they needed to continue to play well if they wanted to get the victory.  What happened next was not what they expected to happen.

In the second half, it seemed like they could not buy a basket.  Between that and Northeast playing a solid game, made the Plainswomen fall really behind.  The third quarter NJC only scored eight points, which was a complete 180 from the first half.  The Plainswomen were hoping that they could get back on track in the fourth, but that was not what happened.  In the fourth, it was a repeat of the third and the women were only able to put up nine points.  The combined 17 points in the second half was the difference maker in their 20 point loss to the Hawks.

Individually, Josi Kurtzer came off the bench and was the team leader in points scored by having 12 points in her college debut.  Tashika Burrell had herself a game by scoring eight points and sharing the ball to have four assists.

The Plainswomen will follow up with their second game on Thursday November 2 as they play Concordia JV.
