Plainswomen Defeat Ballers

Plainswomen Defeat Ballers

The Plainswomen hosted the Colorado Springs Ballers in their opening game of the Roundball Classic.  The women recently came off a win against Northwest Kansas Tech JV and were looking to keep the "W" train rolling with a win over the ballers.  The Ballers were a tough team to scout, so the coaching staff had to work on sharpening their own skills to prepare for this team.

In the first quarter, the team was balanced throughout the entire team, but Katie Diakhaby had the most by only missing one attempt and scoring six points.  In the second, Diakhaby was doing damage in the post again by scoring eight, to have a first half score of 14.  Turnovers were a problem for the Plainswomen in the first half by committing 10 of them, but they had the lead 37-26.

In the third quarter is when the Plainswomen really gained their lead by scoring 26 to the Ballers 16.  Leading the scoring again was Diakhaby.  But in the fourth, the ladies were on too much of a cruise control because of their substantial lead and allowed the Ballers to come back in the game.  In the end however, the final score was 78-66 with the Plainswomen earning the victory.

Stat leaders were Katie Diakhaby having a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds.  Tashika Burrell also had a double-double by scoring 14 points and snagging 10 boards.
