Paint Play Proves To Be Successful

After returning from Thanksgiving break, the Plainswomen basketball team was unsure how they would come out after the holiday, but having a few days to work off the calories seemed to be just what the doctor ordered.  The ladies would get a chance to go on the road to York, NE to play York JV before they their first Region IX game at home.  With that game looming in the future, the Plainswomen team knew they needed to get some of the kinks worked out in their offensive and defensive schemes, and this would be the game to fix them.

The last few games, the Plainswomen post play has been their go to in helping them be successful, so they kept with what worked.  In the first half Northeastern would do a great job on both ends by scoring 29 points and hold York to only 16.  The most impressive stat of the first half was the Plainswomen only allowing York to score four points in the second quarter.  A great defensive stand in execution on the offensive end set the tone for the rest of the game.

A reoccurring problem for the Plainswomen in many of their games is coming out in the second half flat and allowing teams to outscore them and have to play catch-up.  This game however would not be that way.  The Plainswomen were able to almost double their score by scoring 27 in just the third quarter alone.  Along with shooting lights out, NJC would do well once again playing defense and hold York to 11 baskets.  With only 10 minutes left in the game, the victory was in sight and the Plainswomen were able to keep their tempo going and finish the game by defeating York with a score of 67-42.

Leading the charge once again would be Katie Diakhaby by recording another double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds.  What is most impressive is that she put those numbers up in only 21 minutes of play.  The rest of the scoring for the Plainswomen was spread evenly throughout the rest of the team.

The next game for NJC will be when they host Western Nebraska on December 1 for their first game of Region IX Conference play.
