Plainswomen Hold Their Ground In Victory Over McCook

The Northeastern women's basketball team has been doing well lately in Region IX conference play.  After the holiday break, they have been able to work well as a team and put together four solid quarters to put some good wins under their belts.  Traveling east to McCook would be their next test to try to work themselves up the conference rankings.  The women from McCook have been on a cold streak, so they could be due at any time to get a win, so the Plainswomen did not want to give them their streak breaker.

The first half would start with both teams playing their game without being able to adjust to any of their opponents tactics, and finished up with a tie at 18 apiece.  In the second however, the Plainswomen would be able to adjust to what the Indians were doing offensively while still executing on their own offensive side and gained an eight point lead to be ahead at half 42-34.

With thoughts of the first semester's third quarter performance lingering around, the Plainswomen knew that they needed to prove they left that in the past and play how they have been after break.  The ladies proved in the third that they have indeed left their bad third quarter play in 2017 by coming out and outscoring the Indians 19-15 to now lead 61-49.  Having a little cushion of 12 points helped the Plainswomen to relax and play their game without having to scramble to try to keep the lead.  With the buzzer sounding to finish the game, the Plainswomen would come away victorious with a score of 86-76.

Scoring leaders were balanced throughout four players, which made it tough for the Indians to key in on one specific player.  Leading the charge would be Darci Finnigan with 16 points.  Next would be Katie Diakhaby with 14, followed by both Tashika Burrell and Kiara McElroy each getting 12.

The Plainswomen will have a chance at improving their season record by competing against non-conference opponent Northwest Kansas Tech at home on Wednesday January 17.
