Double-Overtime Heartbreaker

Double-Overtime Heartbreaker

Dec. 11, 2018, Sterling, Colo. — The Northeastern Plainswomen lost by one point in a double overtime finish against the Eastern Wyoming Lancers. The ladies led the first half, but a second-half comeback sent the game into extra quarters.

In the first quarter, the Plainswomen took an early 20-15 lead with Asia Turner and Alyzae Davis leading the charge. The second quarter was just like the first as the Plainswomen were able to fend off the Lancers and extended their lead to seven as the scoreboard read 40-33.

In the second half Northeastern stayed fairly consistent with their scoring, but Eastern Wyoming was able to get a few more to cut back on the Plainswomen lead. At the end of the third, Northeastern still led 57-54. In the final quarter, the Lancers were able to get the final points they needed and sent it into overtime. In the first overtime, both teams matched each other with scoring and defense as they each scored nine. With it tied, the game went into double overtime. In the final overtime, Northeastern was able to get a few points, but a missed free throw by the Plainswomen allowed Eastern Wyoming to get the one-point lead, which was the final factor in Northeastern's 93-92 loss.

Although falling by one point is a tough pill to swallow, the ladies got experience and fought through adversity along the way.

The Plainswomen are off for winter break and will return to action Jan. 5 with a road game at Sheridan College.
