Plainswomen’s Third Quarter Helps Them Defeat Knights

Plainswomen’s Third Quarter Helps Them Defeat Knights

Jan. 22, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In a non-conference Region IX game, the Northeastern Plainswomen squared off against the North Platte Knights. The ladies were coming off a tough loss against the Western Nebraska Cougars and looked to fix their mistakes to get the win against North Platte. Northeastern came out with great energy, and if they were able to maintain it throughout four quarters they would put themselves in a great position to win the game.

In the first quarter both teams tried to piece together their scouting reports to what their opponents were doing, so scoring was a little slow. Once the buzzer sounded, Northeastern had a slight lead over the Knights, 15-12. The second quarter was a much different story, as the Plainswomen found their groove and extended their lead to 15 as the scoreboard read 40-25.

The third quarter is something that has either made or broken the Plainswomen in the past as they have either allowed their opponents to come back or have dominated and outscored the opposition. This time it was "option B" as Northeastern turned their 15-point lead into 25 points; the Plainswomen lead 69-44. The fourth quarter was a chance for the women to work on their offensive schemes and really hone in on what they needed to do. At the end of the game, Northeastern was victorious over the Knights 81-54.

The Plainswomen will host McCook on Friday, Jan. 25 with tip-off commencing at 5:30 p.m.
