Plainswomen Control Tempo in Win Over Trinidad

Feb. 2, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — After a nail biting finish on the road at Otero, the Northeastern Plainswomen returned home to play against the Trinidad State Trojans. Northeastern still needed to protect their home court as indicated by head coach Dave Huss in one of his interviews. If the Plainswomen kept their fire like they've had the last few games, they had a great chance at winning.

The first quarter was slow for how the Plainswomen wanted to play this game. The ladies wanted to pressure the Trojans to get them out of their rhythm. The first quarter ended and Northeastern had the 22-16 lead. The second quarter was when Northeastern turned up the heat and extended their lead 47-26. The Plainswomen were able to get the Trojans to play their game, which was high tempo.

In the second half, Northeastern controlled the pace and dominated the Trojans. They controlled the pace by owning the offensive rebounds and giving themselves second chance opportunities. Defensively, the Plainswomen forced Trinidad into turnovers and took advantage with fast break layups. At the end of the third, the Plainswomen held their lengthy lead 67-39. The fourth quarter the ladies put it on cruise control and won the game 83-65.

The Plainswomen will begin their stretch of road games with North Platte on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
