Women Win Region IX; Mattson Named All-Region

With the final regular season tournament here, the Northeastern golf teams were excited and sad for it to be here. The women had already qualified for the national tournament, so this would help them perfect their skills before heading to play. For the men, it would mean the end of the season for some, and for others it was one more shot for them to qualify for their national tournament as individuals. The weather what shaping up to be prime golf weather, so regardless it would be a great ending to their regular season.

The women's team would once again win the tournament, which would give them the title as Region IX Champions. For individuals, the Plainswomen would finish with the bulk of their roster finishing in the top at second, third, and fifth. Jessica Salazar would finish the first day in second, then would finish the tournament in second place again with a score of 192. Caitlyn Jacobs would shoot a 97 the first day putting her in third, but had to withdraw the second day, giving her a WD for the tournament. Baily Kreider would finish day one in fourth, but then would finish third by shooting a 206. Rachel Rael would shoot a 109 the first day putting her in fifth place, and then would finish there after day two with a total score of 224. Overall the women were pleased with their year and look forward to their chance to play at the National Tournament in May.

The men would have a decent outing in the tournament as well. Although they did not score as well as they had wanted, a few of the Plainsmen would still shoot to place in the top 20 for the tournament. Brett Mattson would shoot an 82 the first day and a 78 the second to place him tied in 19th place with fellow Plainsman Logan Wood who would shoot a 78 and an 82. Tate Higgins would finish tied for 24th as he would only be two strokes behind his teammates by shooting a 78 and an 84. Bryce Bivins would place 31st with a score of 172 as he would shoot an 85 and 87. Finishing in 32nd, one stroke behind Bivins would be Bradon Baxter as he would shoot a 173 with a 89 and 84. Overall, the men would place in sixth place to conclude the season.
