Northeastern Hosts Tournament

Apr. 8, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Northeastern golf teams hosted a Region IX tournament here in Sterling at the Northeastern 18 golf course. The weather shaped up to be two gorgeous days and Northeastern looked to take full advantage. 

After the first day, Tate Higgins led the Plainsmen after posting a career-low 71, temporarily putting him in fourth place. Right behind him was Brett Mattson with a 74. After the second day, however, placing shuffled which put Mattson tied at sixth and Higgins tied at tenth. Logan Wood finished the tournament with a 154 placing him in 19th place, Codey Smith a 159 at 24th place, Sam Ostravich a 168 tied at 26th, and Tanner Wilmes a 173 at 29th. Overall, the Plainsmen finished fourth as a team. 

The Plainswomen also played well as they finished in first place. In the end, Baily Kreider finished the tournament in fifth place after shooting a 191. Jessica Salazar finished sixth after posting a 194, Angela Cristelli in seventh with a 200, and Megan Young in tenth with a 252. 

The Northeastern golf teams look to continue posting low scores as they travel to La Junta, Colo. this week as they play in the Otero Tournament.
