Northeastern In Full Swing at Otero Tournament

Apr. 16, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — After a change in location, the Northeastern golf teams traveled to La Junta, Colo. to play in the Otero Tournament. The location changed because of the impending snow that was going to hit Colorado and Wyoming. Even with the change of location to have better playing conditions, only one day could be played due to snow. Regardless of the situation, the men's team still finished third overall and the women finished second.

With one day worth of scores, groupings were close which made the standings look worse than they really were. Sam Ostravich finished tied at fourth with a 72. Brett Mattson finished tenth only two strokes behind Ostravich with a 74. Logan Wood finished tied at 16th with a 76, Tate Higgins tied at 24th with an 81, and Codey Smith in 26th with an 83. As a team, the Plainsmen finished in third only 10 strokes behind second place.

The Plainswomen also played well. The weather played a factor in their higher than average scores. Baily Kreider and Jessica Salazar both tied in fifth place after shooting a 93. Angela Cristelli finished in 11th after shooting a 101. Megan Young shot a 123 to place her in 14th. The Northeastern women finished in second place behind Central Wyoming, who have continually played well this fall and spring seasons.

The teams will take off to Riverton, Wyo. to play in the Central Wyoming tournament on Thursday and Friday.
