Golf Struggles In Riverton

Apr. 23, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In their second to the last tournament of the regular season, the Northeastern golf teams traveled to Riverton, Wyo. to play in the Central Wyoming tournament. The teams had a rough round in their last tournament in La Junta, Colo. with wind and snow canceling one of their days, so they were looking forward to playing two days and lowering their scores.

In their first day of the tournament, the Plainswomen played well with Jessica Salazar leading the team with a 94. The second day was much better for the entire team as each individual improved. Salazar finished in fifth place by shooting a 188. Baily Kreider finished in seventh place after shooting 11 strokes better than she did the first day, totaling a 193. Angela Cristelli finished in ninth after improving sixth strokes as she finished with a 204. Megan Young improved four strokes and finished in 14th place. Overall the Plainswomen finished in second place.

For the men, the first day was less than ideal as they could not find their groove. Between the first and second day, all but one individual improved their scores. In the end, the Plainsmen did not finish how they wanted. Brett Mattson finished in 18th place with a 160. Tate Higgins finished 22nd by shooting a 165. Codey Smith finished 25th with a 167. Logan Wood and Sam Ostravich tied in 26th as they each shot a 169. Lastly was Tanner Wilmes who placed 31st after shooting a 181.

The golf teams will have one more tournament to conclude their regular season beginning on Apr. 25 as they travel to Torrington, Wyo. to play in the Eastern Wyoming tournament.
