Golf Concludes Season

Apr. 29, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In their final tournament of the year, the Northeastern golf teams played in Torrington, Wyo. hosted by Eastern Wyoming College. Both teams looked to finish their season strong, with the men having a chance at making the national tournament if they could defeat Central Wyoming by double digits. 

After day one, both Logan Wood and Brett Mattson were tied as they each shot an 80. The team sat in fifth with a 326 total, just one stroke behind Otero. The Plainsmen needed to find a way to shave off major points if they wanted to defeat Central Wyoming, who had a nine-stroke advantage over them. In the end, Northeastern finished in fifth place with Brett Mattson leading them with a 15th place finish shooting a 154. Logan Wood finished 24th with a 160, Tate Higgins 25th with a 163, Sam Ostravich 27th with a 167, and Codey Smith tied at 28th with a 171. 

The Plainswomen had a great round as they finished second, shooting an 895. Jessica Salazar moved up the board between days and finished third with a 192. Baily Kreider finished sixth with a 212, Angela Cristelli finished 10th with a 227, and Megan Young 13th with a 264. 

With the season finished, the Plainsmen finished fourth overall as a team within Region IX with 44 points. The Plainswomen finished second in Region IX with 230 points. 

As an individual, Brett Mattson finished eighth overall which named him Region IX Second Team.
