Plainsmen Do Well At Cowboy Open

The Plainsmen wrestling team recently competed in Laramie, WY in the Cowboy open.  All Northeastern wrestlers were able to compete in the open, which helps the coaching staff evaluate all athletes as well as give everyone a chance to work on their skills.  All athletes performed well, but it was Sammy Eckhart who did the best.

In the first round, Eckhart won in major decision with a score of 8-0.  In the quarterfinals, he was able to win with a pin in 27 seconds.  In the semi's, he was able wrestle well, but the match went into overtime where he was able to win by two to have the final score be 12-10.  In the finals, Eckhart was able to get the pin to make him the winner of the 141-pound amateur division.  Two of the wins that Eckhart had were over individuals who are a part of a four-year program, which is a statement in itself.

The Plainsmen will have a duel against Northwest Kansas Tech on Tuesday November 7 at Goodland, KS with the match beginning at 7pm CENTRAL time 6pm MOUNTAIN.
