Doane Open Goes Well

After having a week off, the Plainsmen wrestling team were ready for some action on the mat.  The men traveled to Nebraska to compete in the Doane University Open.  The Plainsmen traveled light on this trip, and those who went were able to see some top talent.  A lot of the individuals that they faced were mostly wrestlers at four year universities, so knowing that they were excited for the challenge.

In the 125's, Collin Metzgar would be the lone Plainsmen to compete in that weight division.  Metzgar would put up a fight, but would eventually lose to his opponent in an 11-6 decision.  In the 133's, Paul Cooksey would give it a go.  Cooksey would lose by technical fall with a score of 16-1.  In the 141's, Sammy Eckhart would have some success in his first match up.  Eckhart would put himself in a good position and pin his opponent in just 35 seconds.  In his next match, Eckhart would lose 14-2 in a major decision.

Next in the 157's, Deron Solomon and Matt Macarus would have their chance and both would do very well.  Solomon would win his first match by pin at the 4:02 mark.  In his second match he would win by major decision 13-0.  In his third and last match of the day he would lose in a 10-3 decision to wrap on his tournament.  In Macarus's first match, he would win in a 9-7 decision.  His next match would be another tight one as he would get the 6-5 victory.  He as well would fall out in the third match when he lost by a 9-0 decision.

Justin Anderson would wrestle in the 165's and would get his first win on the day when he won by a 7-3 decision.  In his second match, he would not fare as well as he lose by a 12-5 decision.  Tanai Gill had a short day when he was wrestling well, but would be pinned at the 3:30 mark.  Dylan Buschow had a decent day when he won by technical fall in his first match 17-0, but then would lose in a 10-0 major decision.

The Plainsmen will have one more tournament as they head south to Reno, NV to wrestle in the Reno TOC on December 17.
