Two Tough Contests for Plainsmen

Two Tough Contests for Plainsmen

Nov 13, 2018, Sterling, Colo.— The Northeastern wrestling team recently had a duel with the Colorado School of Mines Miners, followed by a few Plainsmen competing in the Northern Colorado open. The men knew the Miners are a tough team, but were excited for the competition.

In the duel, Cian Apple got things started off right for Northeastern as he won with a 6-5 decision win giving the team the 3-0 lead. Quintel Fuchs was not able to get the upper hand and lost by a 5-2 decision, which brought the Miners back to a 3-3 tie. Sam Eckhart was able to get the 10-4 decision win to allow the Plainsmen to take the lead once again. Throughout the rest of the duel, the Plainsmen had troubles against the Miners. Maverick Keigher lost by a 14-2 major decision, Sebastian Robles lost by a 13-6 decision, Josh Betts lost by a pin in the second period, Dillon Thomas lost by a 12-2 major decision, Braeson Lewis lost by pin right at the end of the first period, Logan Malouff lost by a 11-6 decision, and Oscar Soto lost by a 6-2 decision. Although disappointed in the outcome, the Plainsmen competed well and were only a few moves away from the score being in their favor.

On the weekend, four wrestlers competed in the Northern Colorado Open. Those four athletes had a good run, but none were able to make it to a placing round. All in all, they were able to get more mat time and prepare them for their next duel on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Kearney, Neb.
