Women’s Soccer Get First Win of Season

The Plainswomen soccer team traveled to Wyoming for a two game road trip versus Northwest Wyoming and Gillette College over the weekend.  These games would be the first for new head coach Ken McAlpine's career, so he wanted to make sure it was a memorable one.  With first game jitters aside, the Plainswomen were ready to get their season started and see how their preseason practices paid off.

The first game against Northwest would be an ultimate test for the Plainswomen, as the injury plague had struck the team to leave them with a limited bench.  Nonetheless, the girls were ready to play and get their first win under the belt.  The game was set to be a good matchup for both teams and with the first pass kicked, the game was underway.

The game was a back and forth match throughout the first, but Jaycie Dillenburg was able to draw first blood as Lillian Nordell earned the assist at the 45:00 minute.  After that, the game was at a standstill, and going into the half, NJC lead 1-0.  In the second, with the ladies playing well, were able to hold off the Trappers from scoring by playing strong defense.  It was at the 80:00 mark, Sierra Hinkel was able to extend the lead 2-0 and seal the victory for the team.

With the first day win being able to break the ice for the Plainswomen, they wanted to keep it rolling going in to the Gillette game.  The game was underway and the girls were keeping up with the Pronghorns despite the lack of numbers and a long game the day before.  The Pronghorns were able to score the first goal at the 8:00 minute mark to give them the 1-0 lead.  Shortly after, Gillette made it a 2-0 game due to a penalty by the Plainswomen.  The Pronghorns were able to tack one more on before Sierra Hinkel scored from the pass of Jaycie Dillenburg at the 11:00 mark to make it a 3-1 game in favor of Gillette.  Before heading into half, GC was able to get another point to give them the 4-1 lead.

At half, the Plainswomen knew they had to come out in the second and dig deep, so all that was left to do was compete.  In the second half, the girls were able to not let them score for a while, but only having a limited amount of players for the Plainswomen really took its toll and the Pronghorns tacked 2 more on to finish out the game and defeat the Plainswomen 6-1.
