Plainswomen Fall In Home Opener

Plainswomen Fall In Home Opener

The Plainswomen had their home opener against Northeast Community College, and were looking to give their fans an exciting game on "Free Otterpop Day."  With their game on 8/30 being cancelled due to Colorado Northwestern not having enough players, the girls were itching to take the field again.  With fans in the stands, and the sun shining, the game was underway.

The Plainswomen were able to play solid the first part of the game, but took a mental lapse which lead to the Hawks taking a 2-0 lead.

McAlpine commented, "We fell asleep for 30 minutes in the first half where they scored a couple goals, but we though that we were the better team the first 15 minutes."

The second half turned out to be a better showing for NJC as they were more aggressive and were more patient with the ball.  During that time, NJC had numerous chances to put away the ball, but miscues and deflected kicks made the ball barely miss the goal.

In the 89th minute, Sierra Hinkel was able to put the Plainswomen on the board, but it was too little too late.  The girls had the momentum on their side, but there was not enough time on the clock to continue their scoring.

The game would end in a 3-1 loss for the Plainswomen, but it was not a complete loss.

"Overall we were pleased with performance, but we can't fall asleep during the middle of the game, they need to get over that mental hurdle and put away our chances" added McAlpine.

The Plainswomen will host Snow CC tomorrow (September 2) with game starting at 3pm.
