Early Goal By Mustangs Deflate Plainswomen

After a great win against the Cougars of Western Nebraska, the Plainswomen were eager to get back on the pitch to compete against the Western Wyoming Mustangs.  Having that conference win under their belt was great, but being able to keep a string of wins going is much more difficult. The women knew that to get this win, they had to stay disciplined and seize every opportunity that was given by the Mustangs.

With the opening kick underway, it was the Mustangs who would score even before the first minute had struck, giving them the 1-0 lead.  This goal was devastating for the Plainswomen because starting behind a goal that early in the game could lead to troubles later on.  Nevertheless, the girls kept pursuing an equalizer.

The Plainswomen were playing solid defensively throughout the first half, but in the 38 minute, the Mustangs added another goal giving them the 2-0 lead.  As the clock struck zero and ended the first half, the ladies knew that they needed to make the actions, instead of reacting to Western Wyoming.  Doing so could exponentially increase their chances of scoring.

With the second half underway, the Plainswomen were playing a much better match, but still were not able to break through their defense.  It was a tough game, and making it even tougher was the ball control the Mustang offense had.  In the 54 and 56 minutes, the Mustangs were able to add their third and fourth goal of the game. It was those last two goals that would be the last goals scored of the game by either team.

Although this loss was a tough one to swallow, it was not a conference match, so it only hurts their total record and still sit 1-2 in Region IX conference play. The women will be back in action at home on Tuesday September 19 against Northwest Kansas Tech.
