Plainswomen Sweep Cougars On The Season

The Plainswomen soccer team hosted the Western Nebraska Cougars on Wednesday October 11 with hopes of defeating them to put them in contention to host a Region IX playoff game.  There was a lot riding on this game, and with the ladies defeating the Cougars at their place last time, they knew they had an opportunity to do that.

The game started right away with Macy Gurule breaking the ice scoring only four minutes in with Jaycie Dillenburg being credited with the assist.  After that, the Plainswomen knew they needed to stay playing as if it was a 0-0 game and keep staying aggressive.  As time progressed, the half would end and Northeastern would still have the lead 1-0.

In the second half, the game would stay a 1-0 game until in the 83rd minute when Macy Gurule would dance around the Cougar defend, draw out the keeper, and score her second goal of the game.  With emotions running high, the girls were counting down the minutes for it to be over.  The horn would eventually sound to give the Plainswomen the 2-0 win and put them in good contention to host a playoff game.

This game played out to be a much better match for the Plainswomen as they were able to get 16 shots on goal and have four corner kicks.  Getting the clean sheet would be Katie Saunders as she allowed no goals and made five saves.

The next home game will be on Sunday October 15 for SOPHOMORE DAY as the Plainswomen host Gillette College.
