Plainswomen Conclude Season

The Plainswomen soccer team played host to the Western Wyoming Mustangs in the Region IX quarterfinal game looking to advance to the next step.  The women had already played the Mustangs twice this year, each time closing the gap in score with hope of getting the better half this time.  The wind was blowing at a constant rate of about 14 mph from the northwest across the pitch, but the Plainswomen knew that could help them.

In the first half, the Plainswomen had the wind at their backs, so they took full advantage of it by playing balls through the Mustang defense and not allowing the Mustangs to penetrate very far into the Northeastern backfield.  The women had a few chances at getting a goal where the Mustang goalkeeper misplayed the ball, but scrambled last second to gather it.  As the horn blew, the game was tied 0-0, so it would come down to the second half to see who would be victorious.

In the second, the Plainswomen had a tougher time advancing it, and the Mustangs seemed to have more time in possession than NJC.  Late in the second half, the Mustangs were able to steal the ball from Northeastern and a hard direct kick found its way to the back of the net giving them a 1-0 lead over the Plainswomen.  With time running against them, the Plainswomen were scrambling to get a chance to put one on net, but never could and time ran out.

The Plainswomen finished their season with an overall record of 5-11 and 4-5 in conference.
