Late Push Not Enough

Late Push Not Enough

Sept. 17, 2018, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainswomen soccer team played host to the Gillette Pronghorns on Sunday. The ladies looked to break their small losing streak by playing well with solid defense and nonstop attack.

The Plainswomen broke the ice and took the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute as Jasmin Ghafoerkhan assisted Emali Ortega for the goal. Gillette tied it at one a piece in the 24th minute, then look the 2-1 lead in the 40th. Jaycie Dillenburg didn't want any part of trailing at half, as she scored in the 43rd minute as Emali Ortega was credited with the assist.

In the second half, the Plainswomen had to play catch-up as Gillette scored two goals, one in the 55th minute and one in the 63rd. Hoping her goal would energize the team, Serenity Sanford scored an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute. Although there was time to spare to make a run, the Plainswomen could not find the back of the net, and fell to the Pronghorns 4-3.

The Plainswomen will have time to work on some things and regather, as their next game will be on Friday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. as they host the Otero Rattlers.
