Tough Second Half for Plainswomen Soccer

Tough Second Half for Plainswomen Soccer

Oct. 16, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – In their final regular season game, the Plainswomen soccer team traveled to Norfolk, Neb. to play against the Northeast Community College Hawks. The Plainswomen just came off a big win at home against the Northwest Trappers for sophomore day. The ladies looked to keep that energy into this game to help them finish with a win.

The game went back and forth for a while until the 18th minute when the Hawks took the 1-0 lead. The Plainswomen answered in the 24th minute when Macy Gurule got the equalizer, making it a 1-1 match. Shortly after, Jasmin Ghafoerkhan scored in the 31st minute to allow Northeastern to take the 2-1 lead. Minutes before the first half ended, Jasmin Ghafoerkhan scored again to give the Plainswomen a two-goal lead going into halftime.

The Plainswomen were hoping to get it back in the second half. However, the Hawks were able to find gaps in the Plainswomen defense and get a few goals early. In the first seven minutes, the Hawks were able to score two goals and get the game back tied at 3-3. Northeast was able to deflate the Plainswomen shortly after tying the game by taking the 4-3 lead. Being the competitors that the Plainswomen are, they rallied together and gave themselves opportunities to get the goal they needed, but were never able to capitalize and put it in the back of the net. The final goal of the game came in the 71st minute when the Hawks scored once more to finish it at 5-3.

The Plainswomen finished their regular season and now await their destiny to see who they will be matched up against in the post season.
