Plainswomen Soccer Fall In Season Opener

Plainswomen Soccer Fall In Season Opener

Aug. 23, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In their 2019 season opener, the Plainswomen soccer team played host to the Northeast Community College Hawks. The first game jitters were definitely present in some of the eyes of the players, but were quick to leave after the ladies scored their first goal early in the match.

The first minute is what one would expect as a fan with both teams feeling each other out, but Northeastern was quick to put that to rest  in the second minute as Yadira Ramos broke the ice with her first collegiate goal with Courtney Dinkel getting the assist. Northeastern had the energy, but the Hawks scored the equalizer at the 20 minute mark. The Hawks used that to their advantage and went on a roll in the half to score four more goals to lead 5-1 at half.

The second half was a much cleaner game for the Plainswomen as they limited the Hawks to only one goal. Ramos scored her second of the game in the 55th minute on a penalty kick, but it was too little too late as the Hawks went on to win 6-2 over Northeastern.

The ladies will be back in action on Sunday Aug. 25 as they host Pratt Community College. Kickoff at noon.
