Jodi Shea Continues Athletic and Academic Career

In December 2019, defender Jodi Shea signed her National Letter of Intent with Wayland Baptist in Plainview, TX. Wayland Baptist is an NAIA program coming off a historic season where they made it to the finals of their conference tournament, coming one game away from qualifying for the national tournament. Shea graduated from Northeastern in December and has now joined her new school and program.

 “I chose to attend Wayland Baptist University because I felt like it was the best opportunity for me to not only improve my abilities as an athlete but also as a student. I’m excited to see how God will use these next two years of my life and so thankful for how everyone I met at NJC has positively supported and shaped my future,” Shea said.

For the last two years, Shea has been a standout center back for the Plainswomen, starting in 31 contests for NJC. She was an integral part of the program’s growth, and a major reason why Northeastern posted a program best seven shutouts in the 2019 season. The team also registered the lowest goals-against average in program history with 1.92. She was recognized with All-Region IX Honorable Mention accolades for her efforts.

In addition to her work on the field, Shea was a standout in the classroom as well. She maintained a 4.0 GPA during her time at Northeastern, and was recognized as a First Team Academic All-American for the 2018-19 season and a member of the Region IX All-Academic Team.  

“I am so proud of the athletic and personal growth I have been able to witness in Jodi. She transformed her game during her time here, and the awards and accolades she was able to receive is a testament to her strong, competitive mindset and determination. She grew so much as a leader this season, mentoring and guiding 16 new faces. I can’t imagine having the success we were able to have this season without her. Our program and school are so proud to call her an alum, and we know she will continue to excel in every challenge she takes on,” said Northeastern Head Coach Ken McAlpine.
