Plainswomen Soccer Wins First Region IX Matchup

Sterling, Colo...

Northeastern women's soccer team continues their impressive play as they bump up their winning streak to 5 games.  The Plainswomen have found a groove during their winning streak with a combination of good defensive play and timely goals that keep the momentum going.  Coming off of a two win Labor Day weekend on the road, the Plainswomen would be back home on the pitch to take on a very good Casper College on Wednesday, September 8th.  With a 5-1 record going into Wednesday's game, the Plainswomen executed their game plan accordingly to play up their strategy for beating the Thunderbirds, resulting in a 2-1 win.  Casper was the first Region IX matchup for the Plainwomen this season and hope to continue their strong play throughout these regional games.  The key to the Plainswomen's win on Wednesday was their ability to keep ball possesion for most of the first and second halves along with persistent defense.  Coach Ken McAlpine stated that "our defensive pressure all over the field was consistently good for most of the 90 minutes, and it had to be against a very quality Casper team to get the win.  Our backline played well, were decisive and aggressive in winning back balls for us."  The Plainswomen move to 6-1 on the season, with a 1-0 record in region play.  Northeastern heads to southern Colorado for a pair of regional games over the next couple of days.  On Friday, September 10th they will face Trinidad State at 1pm and on Saturday, September 11th, they will face the Otero Rattlers in Pueblo at Dutch Clark Stadium at 2:30pm.
