Another Overtime Win For Plainswomen Soccer

Two overtime wins in the past two games for the Plainswomen soccer team has their confidence riding high coming into this week.  This past Saturday, NJC women's soccer made the trip across state lines to play rival Western Nebraska Community College on their home pitch at Landers Sports Complex.  This was the first match of two this season between the rival teams who battle each other in Region IX play.  In what was expected to be a close match, the Plainswomen came out and delivered a 2-1 overtime win against the Cougars.  The big win for NJC takes the women's soccer program to a 9-2 overall record and a comfortable 4-1 conference record.  The Plainswomen continue their season schedule with a game against Western Wyoming College on Wednesday, September 22nd at 11am.  NJC will be in front of a home crowd again for the next four games of the season.

WNCC Goal - At minute 67, a cross pass gets deflected by a Plainswoman player and finds its way into their own net

1st Goal - At minute 81, NJC equalizes the score with a brilliant strike from Gabriele Bauman from outside the 18' box which finds the upper corner of the goal

Overtime Goal - At minute 94, Lindsey Harris finds Jacqueline Escalera on the wing outside the 18' box, Escalera fires a shot over the opposing goalkeeper for the game winner

Breakdown:  The Plainswomen controlled most of the first half with attackiing opportunities and possession time.  A few shots were taken, but none of them found the goal and didn't test the opposing goalkeeper much.  The score was tied at halftime with each team at 0.  Second half intensity really picked up for both NJC and the Cougars.  Timely goals and placed players in the end is what took it over for the Plainswomen.  A second straight overtime win helped build more momentum for the ladies as they head into next weeks game.
