Plainswomen 1-3 Over the Weekend

The season-opening victory over North Platte Community College must feel like a distant memory for the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen. Since then, NJC has gone 1-8.

The Plainswomen snapped a five-game losing streak Thursday against Sheridan College. NJC got the match started by winning a dramatic first set 28-26. NJC won the second set 25-21 to take a 2-0 match lead. Sheridan College staved off defeat by winning the third set 25-22. NJC won the fourth set 25-22 to claim the match 3-1.

Tori Macaluso led NJC with 17 kills. Emily Luke recorded 12 kills and Reagan Shaffer finished with eight. Luke led the team with 18 digs. Emily McCurley recorded 16 digs.

The Plainswomen got the Pizza Hut Invitational started with a 3-1 loss to Cloud County Community College. CCCC won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18. NJC avoided the sweep by winning the third set 28-26. The Plainswomen dropped the fourth set 25-21.

Macaluso once again led the Plainswomen with 15 kills. Noelani Simpson finished with 12 kills. Shaffer recorded seven kills.

NJC was swept in their next match by Western Nebraska Community College. Noel Phillips led NJC with five kills. McCurley finished with a team-leading 18 digs.

The Plainswomen had a strong showing in their final match of the weekend against Casper College. NJC pushed Casper to the brink, losing in five sets.

Casper College won the first set 25-21. NJC answered back by winning a closely contested second set 25-23. NJC won the third set 25-16 to take a 2-1 match lead. Casper College fought back to win the final two sets 25-21 and 17-15.

Macaluso led NJC with 15 kills. Luke finished with 13 kills and Kyra Mix recorded eight. McCurley led the team with 14 digs. Kayal Kagan recorded 11 digs.

NJC will be competing in the Wyobraska Tournament this weekend at Western Nebraska Community College. They'll play Salt Lake Community College to kickoff the weekend on Friday at noon.
